    Final Exam Alert

    At the review session on Monday (12/13), students were asked to come up with some questions that they thought would be good for the Final examination. 5 questions were suggested. 2 of these will be on the Final.

    • Describe the complications of modeling and predicting climate variability.
    • Compare and contrast K-T boundary extinction scenarios. Explain the associated environmental impacts from each scenario.
    • Describe processes that led to our current oxygenic atmosphere.
      • Provide some equations
      • What time period(s) were involved?
      • What proofs or evidence exist to support the occurrence of these processes?
      • What was the primitive atmosphere like?
    • Describe processes that influenced Pleistocene Glaciation.
    • Describe arguments for/against Maastrichian glaciation

    Two additional questions will come from the lecture portion and 1 additional question from the Lab for the total of 5 questions. The Exam is comprehensive with emphasis on material since the Midterm. The exam will be handed out in class on 12/15 (Wednesday). There will be no lecture that day.

    The completed exam is due on December 22 (Wednesday) by 4 PM

    1. Poster presentation based on the term paper has been eliminated – counted as 10% of the grade – added to the term paper which now counts as 30% of your grade.

    2. Term paper due date was changed.

    Dec 3 Fri Term paper drafts returned (via Colin). Lab as usual
    Dec 6 Mon Continue with Glacial climate feedbacks
    Dec 8 Wed LGM through Holocene millennial and century-scale climate and climate changes
    Dec 10 Fri Present-day climate variability
    Dec 13 Mon Term paper due. Review session (come with questions)
    Dec 15 Wed No lecture but come to the class to obtain the take-home final exam.
    Dec 22 Wed Final exam due by 4PM

    I will have the grading done by January 3 or 4 and the grades submitted January 4.

    Because of the University rules (grades must be in by Dec 24 – or 27), I will initially give everyone an Incomplete.

  • 9/29/2004 - Three websites that deal with Coriolis effect (some with movies) have been added under Links.
  • 9/29/2004 - The class is now one full lecture behind. We will finish Chapter 6 on or by October 8, i.e., the Mid-Term will cover Chapters 1 through 6.
  • 9/9/2004 - Term Paper section added to class page.
  • 9/9/2004 - Syllabus and lecture outline are up on the web.
  • 9/9/2004 - The web page is up.
